Gin Rin Benigoi from Ogata Taiho line

I’d say it’s a fair statement to say this is the no:1 Benigoi lineage on the planet. A bit like Dainichi is synonymous with Gin Rin Karashigoi, Sakai with Sanke and so on, I have yet to see a pound for pound better, more consistent Benigoi. You realise how big Japan is as a country when the Koi from Ogata get a 2 hour internal flight just to get to Tokyo! Then we try to marry the fish coming from Niigata so you can imagine the logistics are a headache BUT, the fish are so worth it.

I’ve said a few times, if this farm was in Niigata, a lot of breeders would be in trouble. Why are they so popular?
The colour & body style are pretty immense, as bigger Sansai, Yonsai they really transform. Throw in this unrivalled colour, they are a real spectacle for any pond. I must admit I’m a fan of single coloured Koi anyway so I’m perhaps a bit biased but I know how much fun you can have with them. They have this red colour type, as opposed to many lighter Benigoi types. Dainichi also does some crazy Benigoi from his Red Tiger line but as always with Dainichi the prices can get really carried away.

If we break down this individual, you can see this vivid, almost luminous Beni type this farm is famed for. Great bodyline and a . If you’re into growing Koi you’ll know this is a great attribute for young Koi. Genetically speaking koi with big mouths are predisposed to get big. Of course there’s a long journey to raise them to big sizes but we look for the physical blueprint (head length, size of mouth, pronounced back bone & good body line). The pigment speaks for itself & the scale alignment is top. Throw in the Hiroshima Gin Rin and this is a super Koi in the making.
