What a great piece this is. I was so impressed with Takatatsu's Nisai in Autumn that I made sure we were amongst the first to select from his Tosai. Dubbed 'Black Dragon' by many hobbyists in Asia, this variety is really gathering momentum.
Dainichi has the Black Zeus, which are part of the Botan project, and they do achieve some insane sizes and body characteristics, but the price point makes them very unattainable for many of us. I think this is why Takatatsu's variation is very intriguing. The pattern, scale, and Gin Rin types are very similar, and to be fair they are no slouches when it comes to size; I have had Nisai up to 50cm.
You can expect sumi recession while growing, but once the temperatures cool and the growing slows, the Kumonryu Sumi will start to flourish. The beautiful Aragoke Gin Rin scale arrangement will look very impressive as the sumi solidifies in the future—one of my top pieces.
